EU - JPIA Holds Tribute to New CPAs

The JPIA’s Tribute to the New CPAs for the May 2012 CPA Board Exam Passers was held at the Rodolfo B. Abadilla Hall, at 4:00 PM on July 21, 2012.

Five new Certified Public Accountants attended the tribute. They are: Yasser Aureada, CPA; Anna Remelea Bobadilla, CPA; Marvin Durante, CPA; Kristine Joyce Merle, CPA; and Jeffrey Trestiza, CPA.

The 10thplacer Mr. Raymund Tinamisan, CPA, wasn’t able to attend but he sent a message to the Dean, which was later on relayed to the JPIAns with Mr. Julius Macaraig reading his message. Also, he sent a test bank and online link for all the JPIAns to serve as part of their review materials

The program started with a doxology, followed by the national anthem, and the university hymn. The opening remark was given by Dean Paz L. Bobadilla. Next is the introduction of each new CPA and the delivery of their inspirational messages to all the JPIAns aspiring to be CPAs in the future. The emcee for the event is Mr. Marlon Joseph Serrano, a fourth year student.

The first CPA to share his experiences is Mr. Aureada. He talked about how he asked God for signs if he will pass the CPA Board Exam. First he asked for three red balloons, two of which he had seen, the third one being pink. On his second take, he asked for three snakes as signs, though he didn’t see any snake alive up close and personal. First, he only heard the word, second he saw it on a girl wearing Cleopatra costume, and third he saw his year of birth, 1989 which happened to be a year of the snake. He also shared his experiences in the review schools and his experience during the actual board exam.

The second one is Ms. Bobadilla. She talked about how she came to want to be a CPA. She said she and her brother were always with Dean Paz whenever Dean would attend conventions and seminars in other places. She liked traveling and she liked working in the CPA firms’ offices that she had seen when she was still in elementary and high school. She also shared her experiences in their journey to be CPAs and how they lived in a dormitory, how they established their review habits, and how they waited for the results of the examination.

Third to speak is Mr. Durante. He talked about how he, as a student, doesn’t really have a serious study habit and when he was at the dorm with his friends he was insecure because he can see that the rest of his dorm-mates are really reviewing seriously. He also talked about how he overcomes boredom of reading books by imagining himself as a CPA with a better status or something like that.

Fourth is Ms. Merle. She talked about how takers of the Board exam shouldn’t expect much, so that they wouldn’t be so depressed when the results came. We should accept that there are things not meant for us and that there is a right time for us to achieve our dreams.
Fifth is Mr. Trestiza. He shared his own experiences during his college days and on the CPA Board Exam. He provided JPIAns with additional inspirations and tips on taking the exam.

Lastly, Mr. Macaraig read the message from Mr. Tinamisan. Kuya Raymund said that there are different types of students: the Quizzers, Performers, Officers, and the Invisibles.

He also thanked the individuals who helped him to be a CPA: God, his family and darleng, Dean Paz, Ma’am Bagobagon, Mr. Ordinanza and his professors, his friends, his classmates, his reviewer at the review school he attended, and many others.

Presentation of plaque and awarding of table name and money incentive was given after every message delivery , with Dean Paz, Mrs. Bagobagon, and Jejomar Monterey.

After the messages, the JPIAns ate and enjoyed their dinner together. Also, a raffle was conducted as an end to the event. T-shirts, scarf, and bag from Dean and the electric fan and rice cooker from the unfinished bingo game was given during the raffle.

The other CPAs who passed the examination last May but weren’t able to attend were: Aldwyn Andes, CPA; Charmaine Espino, CPA; Dennis Leveriza, Jr. CPA; Millarose Garcia, CPA; Froilan Villaruel, CPA; and Raymund Tinamisan, CPA.

It was another unforgettable event for the JPIAns and we hoped that it really inspired the first years to persevere and stay in the accountancy program.
